General Medicine
The Medical Faculty is the largest and leading educational, scientific, and clinical subdivision of Astrakhan State Medical University, operating under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. It plays a key role in training highly qualified physicians and in the development of medical science and practical healthcare.
The supreme governing body of the Faculty is the Academic Council, which defines the main directions of educational, scientific, and clinical activities. The day-to-day management of the Faculty is carried out by the Dean, who is elected by the Academic Council of the University and approved by order of the Rector. The Dean, together with the Deputy Deans and the Dean’s Office, coordinates the educational process, clinical training, and research activities.
The main areas of activity of the Medical Faculty include training specialists in the specialty “General Medicine” in close connection with clinical practice and scientific research, taking into account the needs of modern healthcare. Considerable attention is paid to the introduction of evidence-based medicine at all stages of medical education, the development of professional competencies of future physicians, and the use of the scientific potential of academic schools for training highly qualified personnel.
The Faculty actively participates in scientific research aimed at improving public health and increasing life expectancy. Students acquire the necessary clinical experience during practical training, which strengthens their professional orientation and interaction with medical institutions. The Faculty also focuses on the development and implementation of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods and on providing high-quality medical care to the population through university clinics and affiliated healthcare organizations.
Training at the Medical Faculty is conducted mainly in the areas of internal medicine, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. After graduation, students with strong academic performance and an interest in research may continue their education in narrower medical specialties such as cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, urology, psychiatry, radiology, otolaryngology, infectious diseases, and others.
The educational process is supported by numerous university departments, including specialized clinical departments of the Medical Faculty. Practical and industrial training is carried out in leading medical institutions of Kursk and the Astrakhan region, including regional and city hospitals, maternity hospitals, emergency medical centers, and specialized clinics.
The Medical Faculty has traditionally maintained a high level of professional training, active research work, and strong clinical orientation. Students are encouraged to deepen their knowledge through participation in scientific student societies, research projects, conferences, and academic competitions.
